Quilting Projects

I have been working on several projects from Febr-April. I loved the Valentine's fabric and made a table runner for next year. It is from a pattern from Fons&Porter Love of Quilting Jan/Febr 2009 called Love Song. It made a cute spring table runner from a pattern in F&P Easy Quilting Spring 2011. I have to put buttons on it which I learned how to do on my sewing machine. I finished 2 cute wall hangings to cover a crack on the wall in our bedroom. The pattern was in F&P Easy Quilting Summer 2011 called Tweet Others with Kindness. This week is going to be very busy with our Mid Valley Quilt Show this Thur-Sat(April 21-23). I have my quilt called Old Hawaii in the show to be judged. I'm working as a hostess(white glove) from 9-12 on Wednesday. It is fun to talk to everyone and show the backs of the quilts. I celebrate my 60th birthday on April 24. My birthday present is going to Paducah for the AQS Quilt show. My supportive quilt husband is going with me. We leave on April 26-30 and then have fun in Nashville from May 1-3(home on May 4). I'm excited to see the Quilt show and take a few classes. We will visit a Marion.KY which is a Amish community.

Goodbye March

I was suppose to go to my first workshop with my guild but got sick last night. I was excited about taking the class with Jean Wells today. I called Kathy and she going to get the kit for me. I have her new book so will be able to do the art quilt that we were going to do in class. I had the sewing machine and everything ready for class in the car. I will meet Kathy this coming week for our short arm meeting. She can tell me about it. I really enjoyed her lecture yesterday. I'm disappointed that I missed a workshop with Jean but can go over to Sisters for classes anytime.

Mid Valley Quilt Guild March meeting Jean Wells

Today was our monthly meeting and our guest speaker was Jean Wells from Sisters OR. She is a nationally speaker and book author of quilting. She has the The Stitchin' Post quilt shop and has the largest outdoor Quilt show in the country(2nd Sat in July). She drove from Sisters this morning and forgot her computer with her power-point presentation. She didn't need it because she is an excellent speaker. She told how she got started in quilting and her new adventures in art quilting. She had several of her quilts from the her new book to show us. The book is called "Intuitive Color and Design. It was very interesting how to use lines/designs and use of color. I'm taking her 1 day workshop tomorrow called Quilt Design Exploration from 9:00-3:00. This will be a new and different type of quilting for me. I wanted to take classes that are out of my comfort zone and learn new ideas and techniques. I will post about the workshop and pictures.

Smile Box

I have seen in a few quilt bloggers use smile box for a slide show. I signed up for the free use of it but the pictures are smaller and then are ads attached to the right side of the slide show. You can pay monthly or yearly not to get the ads and bigger pictures. I'm glad some bloggers use it but for me I would use the money for something else like fabric.

Happy National Quilting Day and Happy Spring

The National Quilting Day was established in 1991 to educate and teach everyone about the love of quilting. It has been 9 years since I took my first quilting class at Grandma's Attic in Dallas, OR. We moved to Dallas 10 years ago this June from Denver,CO. I'm so glad I took a beginner class to learn how to quilt and fell in love with quilting. It has been so much fun for me to create and be creative in making something out of fabric. I took home eco in junior/high school which was required in my school days. I learned how to sew but had a hard time with making clothes. My Mom would make wonderful dresses for me but I never got excited about making clothes. I wish my Mom could see all the quilts and table runners I have maded now. My grandmother had a treadle sewing machine and made quilts. I do have 2 quilts that she made but wish I had her sewing machine. I have taken several quilt classes and got a short arm quilt machine. My goal for this year was to take alot of classes and go to Paducah and Houston. I will turn 60 on April 24 and to celebrate I wanted to have a Quilting Celebration. Quilting is a huge part of my life and I love it. I have some many quilting projects but like the saying says Some Much Fabric So Little Time. Happy Quilting Day and Happy Spring.

Snow Day

We got about 1-2" of snow this morning. It was suppose to snow about 6" but didn't happen. It is fun how the news makes a big deal of a snowstorm. It is a great day for quilting. I started working on table runner for spring and working on a flower quilt by Melinda Bula. I wanted to do a quilt in her book before I have her 2 day workshop in Sisters this July. I will start a Valentine's table runner today.
I did get my pictures back from Cloth/Paper Studios on Tuesday. The editor said she found them in a "to be considered" folder. I sent them a year ago. She said you have a lovely studio but it is not a good fit for the magazine at this time. The magazine cost $14.99 which is expensive. I'm glad I tried to get my article/pictures in the magazine. I plan to get the spring edition but no more after that issue.
