Happy New Year's Eve

Today I want to say goodbye to 2010 and welcome 2011. I have NO UFO's which is sounds like alot of quilters have at the end of the year. I promised myself that I would finish an quilt project which I have faithful done in 8 years. I have several quilting goals for 2011 which are as follows:
1) I will turn 60 in April so have decided to go to Paducah Quilt Show( April 27-30) and the International Quilt Show in Houston(Nov 3-6). I have lodging for both events and booked several classes in Paducah. I want to take alot of classes this year to learn more different types of quilting. I have classes with David Taylor and Libby Lehman in Paducah. My supportive husband Wayne is going with me to see Paducah and Nashville. I will go to Houston by myself and visit with a college girlfriend after the show.
2) Small quilting groups from the guild. MegaQuilter group with 2 other guild memebers that have short arm machines.
3) Enter a quilt in our Mid Valley Quilt guild Quilt Show in April and possible in the Oregon State Fair.
4) Attend more classes at different quilt stores and at Sisters Outdoor Faire/Quilt Show in July.
5) Practice more with my Pfaff Grandquilter to get better in free motion quilting.
6) Attend more meetings at the guild and assist with activites.
It is going to be a fun full year of quilting for me. Happy Quilting and Happy New Year 2011.

Happy/Sad Year 2010

It is hard to believe that another year is ending and new one begining in a few days. It has been a up and down past year. It was very hard to see our golden retriever Mandy get sick(?brain tumor from the end of Jan to end of April) after having her for almost 10 years. We miss her so much and it was the first time without a dog in 25 years. Our new golden retriever Maddie is growing fast and still in the puppy stage. She is alot of fun and has 2 speeds FAST and OH MY GOSH speed. My job has been a challenge this year. The 2 year plan is to retire from part time to per diem. I'm so glad I had my left hip replaced in August. I'm the bionic woman with 2 new hips. I didn't keep up with my walking 2 miles 4 days a week due to hip pain.
We enjoyed going camping all over the state this year. We had a great time in Kauai in March to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
I'm so glad I have the love for quilting. It is so much fun to look and feel fabric and make a quilt from it. It is so relaxing to sew and quilt in my 2 studios. I really enjoyed going to the Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show in July. I took a great class called Old Hawaii and finished a quilt that I plan to enter in our Mid Valley Quilt Guild Quilt Show in April. I had a quilt in the show and was a host too.
So as I say goodbye to 2010 I'm looking forward to 2011. I'm thankful my health, my wonderful husband, friends and family. Pray for peace and love around the world.

Merry Christmas

The time from Thanksgiving to Christmas is a wonderful time. We enjoy getting together with our friends/neighbors to celebrate the season. This was the first year we cut our Christmas tree with our new golden retriever Maddie. Since we moved to Oregon we have always cut a Christmas tree at the Sunrise Tree Farm near us. We lost our golden retriever Mandy in April. She loved Christmas. She will be with us in spirit.
We will celebrate Christmas with our "kids" Maddie(7 1/2 months old) and Sassy(our cat). We have enjoyed Christmas with our annual Christmas appetizer party with our friends, Sounds of Christmas at Guthrie Park, Christmas Open House at our neighbor house(C&M), Radio City Christmas Spectacular in Portland with the famous Rockettes and Christmas Eve service at our church. We remember our service men and women and their families in our prayers to keep them safe. We pray for peace, love and understanding in his holiday season.
Our families live in different states but we are their in spirit. Merry Christmas!!!

Mega Quilter Group

I meet with 2 guild members( Kathy and Norma) that have short arm quilt machines like mine this past Monday. We had a nice lunch and talked about how we like or dislike/problems with quilting on a short arm. We are going to meet at my house in January. I will show my quilt studios and my quilts plus I will make lunch. I think it will be a good learning experience. I brought a quilt kit of Patrick Lose Studios called Fall Finery which is a applique table runner. It was on sale at Craftwarehouse. I'm putting the binding on it. I want to start on a new project and get started on my quilt on the machine after the holidays. I made several fall and holiday projects this year. It has been alot of fun.

Mega Quilter Group

I belong to the Mid Valley quilt guild in Salem. In the last issue on Quilt Ink which is our month newsletter it had about small groups in the area. I found one that was about short arm quilting. I talked to Kathy and she was starting the group to share ideas and learn more about short arm quilting. She had another gal interested(Norma) so we are going to get together on Dec 20 at a resturant in Dallas for our 1st meeting. I'm looking forward to learning more about short arm quilting. We can share notes about problems and solutions to using a short arm quilt machine. More news later about this group.

Fall and Holiday Projects

I work on several fall and holiday projects which I got from the issue of Fons and Porters Quilting Celebrations Winter 2010. I made a Mini Mats for Halloween and Fall. Seasonal Splendor Fall table topper and Jolly Holly table topper. These were projects from Patrick Loose. I brought a kit at Craftwarehouse of Patrick Loose called Merry. It is a small wall hanging. I love decorating the house with all my seasonal table topper and runners plus have several wall hanging(big to small) for Christmas.

Family Visit

Last week my brother and sister-in-law(Randy and Mary) came for a visit from CA. They hadn't been here in several years so it was nice to have them come to our house. We didn't do much but relax around the house. Mary and I went to the Gentle House Christmas Open House and our local quilt store Grandma's Attic on Thursday. I made crab casserole for dinner with green beans and salad. We all went up to McMinnville for lunch at the Golden Valley Brewery and then to the quilt store Boersma's. It was a nice day so the guys visited outside the store. We had soup and sandwich for dinner. Saturday, we went to the Woodburn Factory Outlet stores to find a coat for Mary. The rest of the day we relaxed and watched football. Sunday, we went out for breakfast at out local resturant Washington Street Pub and Grill. They left for the airport after breakfast. We enjoyed our visit with them. Mary brought alot of fabric which was great. We have great quilt stores in Oregon.

Quilting Projects

I have been working on several projects in the Fons&Porter Quilting Celebrations magazine. I made a small fall leaves wall hanging, mini mats with Halloween, and Jolly Holly table topper. I have a picture of the small leaves wall hanging. I found a great pattern at Grandma's Attic at my local quilt store called Fall Quilt by Bobbie G Designs. I used some of my black fabric called Confetti Leaves Michael Miller fabric. I loved it for fall/Thanksgiving season. I made a table topper from a pattern called Topper Twist with fall leaves fabric. I'm using some of my stash with these patterns. I worked on the Jolly Holly table topper today which I hope to get done in the next few days.

Church Banner

I was able to see the church fall banner that several members and me made for the side of the altar this past Sunday. It is a 12 ft banner with falling leaves on it. It was alot of work but looked great on the side of the altar.

Camping trip to Bullards State Park Bandon OR

Last week, we went camping at Bullards State Park in Bandon,OR for 3 nights (Monday-Thursday). There were several storms coming in over the weekend and Monday. We got to see the best storm watching with rain, wind and HUGE WAVES along the coast. Wayne, Dad and Maddie came in the pick-up camper and drove the VUE. I took my time getting to Bandon by stopping at the Factory Outlets in Lincoln City, Fred Meyer in Newport and Florence and 3 quilt stores. I stopped at the Quilters Cove in Newport and Wenz-daze Quilters Emporium in Florence. I went shopping at Forget Me Knots in Bandon. I found a cute beach materical in Florence and Bandon. We stayed in the campground with me in a yurt and the guys in the pickup camper by the yurt. Monday night we had a wind, rain, and thunderstorm come in at 11:00pm. You could hear the storm coming with lighting and thunder in a distance. It was very intense when it hit us with alot of rain, wind and huge crashing lightning and thunder that felt like it would hit you. It was nice to hear a warm yurt to sit in and eat our meals. We went over to the south jetty to watch the waves which were 20-25 ft high. Tuesday, we went to the beach and saw huge waves throwing HUGE LOGS around the beach. It was amazing. We went to see Sunset Beach State Park, Shore Acres State Park and huge rocks with seal lions and seals on them. You could hear them. We had a great campfire that night. Wednesday, the guys/Maddie went fishing on the Coquille River and I went shopping in Bandon and working on my binding on my fall quilt wall hanging. Dad caught a coho salmon 25" long and 15-16lbs. It was a naive salmon so couldn't keep it. We went out to eat in Bandon that night. We headed home on Thursday with me leaving early at 7:45 and guys later. We had a wonderful time camping and see a wild storm on the coast.

Happy 10-10-10

This is a special day because it is 10/10/2010. It has been a rainy weekend with mild temps. I love the fall weather with leaves turning different colors, pumpkins, crispy/rainy weather, hot apple cider and fall food. Last week I helped finish make a 12 ft fall banner for the church. This my first time working with some ladies from church making a 2 banners for the side of the altar. It is light tan in the front with a dark brown on the back. We cut leaves to place on it. I put the 2 banners together which was alot of work and time. Long story short I wouldn't do it again(disorganized and lack of communication). I will try to get a picture of it this week.
I have enjoyed 10-10-10 because I was put on call this morning which is my 1st day back to work after over 8 weeks off for surgery. I was canceled the rest of the shift so started a wall hanging called Pumpkin Harvest. I made a table topper last week with fall leaves. I started a small wall hanging with several leaves. I will work on sewing the veins on the leaves.
Wayne's Dad is coming Wednesday for 3 weeks. It will be nice to have him here.

Northwest Quilt Expo/Wallowa State Park

I went to the Northwest Quilt Expo in Portland on Sept 25. I really enjoyed the show and the featured artist was Jean Wells. I got to the show early so was able to see all the quilts before it got crowded. There were 250-300 quilts with alot of great vendors. I got 2 patterns designed by June Jaeger called Quail Family and The Pictorial Northwest. She is the sister of Jean Wells. Superior Threads was there so got several spools of thread.
The next day we headed over to the far Northeast corner of the state to go camping at Wallowa State Park/Wallowa Lake/Josesph. It is a beautiful area of Oregon that we have never seen but heard alot about it. We went to 3 different quilt shops which were Pendleton QuiltWorks, Becky's Fabric in Lewiston,ID and Cattle Country Quilts in Joseph,OR which was my favorite. It was a cute shop with alot more fabric/patterns then the other 2 stores. I got a pattern that I have been looking for ages called Bali Sunrise and 2 fabrics on sale. Joseph is a cute town with alot of shops, resturants and beautiful bronze statues on main street. We had a great time camping and seeing this beautiful area called the "Switerland of Oregon". I love the barns in this area which are featured in several Country/Country Extra magazine.

Happy Fall

It has been awhile since my last blog and Sept is almost over. I'm glad fall season is here. It is one of my favorite times of the year. It has been 7 weeks since my hip surgery. I did get a another quilt to done in August. I brought the pattern and 8 fat quaters in Houston for the 2008 International Quilt Show. The pattern is called Follow the Leader and fabric from Pincushion Boutique Davis, CA. The fabric was a batik with blue, green and purple. I will get on the quilt machine next month. Paige and I went to EES last Monday and had a great time shopping for quilting things(books, pattern, rulers, fusible web, batting and fabric. I have been working on a 12 ft banner(2) for our church. It has been an experience working with a church group. Long story. I'm glad I got the banner ready to place leaves over it. I will be unable to work on the banner next week so won't see it until the 1st week of Oct. We are going camping to the northeast part of the state today. We are staying at Wallowa State Park near Joesph for 5 nights. We have never been that part of the state. It will be Maddie's 1st camping trip.
Yesterday, I went to Portland to the Northwest Quilting Expo. I got there early so was able to see all the quilts without a crowd. The quilts were fabulous. I will post some pictures later. Enjoyed the vendors.

Rainy Monday

It was so nice to hear it raining this morning. It never rains in the summer months. It is a surprise to have cool weather and rain on the next to the last day in August. I finished the quilt I started in Sisters last week. It turned out great and will have a friend quilt it for me. I would like to show it next year for our quilt show in April. It is called Old Hawaii. I took a quilt design class with Sally Frey in Sisters. I used some fabric I brought in Houston (International Quilt Show 2008) and fabric I brought in Maui. I will post a picture of it this week.
It has been 3 weeks today that I had surgery. I'm getting around with a cane and increasing my activities. I will start a new quilt project this week.
This was Maddie's first rainy day. She didn't know what to make of it. She is almost 13 weeks old and weighs 20 lbs. New pictures of her this week too.
Happy Rainy Monday that won't get me down.

Hello

I haven't been able to get much sewing/quilting done since going to Sisters. It has been very busy with a new puppy Maddie and then getting ready for my left hip replacement which was a week ago today. I was in the hospital from Monday to Wednesday. I had my right hip done 6 years ago so knew what to except with pain and moblity(walker and then advanced to a cane). I did get the last block done on my Old Hawaii quilt and started to put the rows together before surgery. I'm feeling better that I will try to sew on the rows this week. I will have my staples removed next Monday. I wanted to get an update on my blog and then post pictures of Maddie later. She is growing so fast.

Tuesday night she cried for about 20 minutes and then went to sleep which was great. She did wake up several times and cried for a short time. She is learning fast in the potty training(house). She has learning to go thru the dog door in the sunroom. Sassy is curious about the new dog. Maddie is a little scared for her. There are going to best friends just like Mandy.

Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show

We had a great time in Sisters, OR for the Outdoor Quilt Show on July 10. Wed, we arrived at our campsite at the KOA Sisters/Bend. The KOA was great and had a nice site with several trees and great view of the lake and forest area around it. We had my high school friend Julie and her husband Doug come over from Bend for a reunion picnic at our campsite. I made chicken waldorf salad, crossiants, homemade potato salad, chips and Mai Tai's. Julie had a dip with chips and choc chip cookies. It was a fun evening. Julie was going to my 40th high school reunion the next day in Bellevue, Nebraska. Thurs, I had a design quilt class from 8:30-3:30 which was excellent. The teacher was Sally Frey from Fontura, CA. We had 22 quilters from OR, WA, CA and AK. It was great to see what everyone designed from their border materical. We had a huge room to work in which was great. The class was called Old Hawaii but everyone didn't have tropical prints. Thurs night, we went to the Ricky Tims concert from 7:00-9:00. They had show and tell which was neat. Ricky is a quilter and pianoist. He was excellent and tells great stories. He showed several of his quilts. Friday, we took a drive south of Bend and over to Mt Bachelor. We had dinner at the Three Creek brewery in Sisters. Saturday, I was a hostess for the quilt show from 9:15-11:30. I meet a quilter from Kalispell, MT that was a hostess with me. We keep a eye on the quilts in our area. We had a picnic lunch in the park and then I went looking at all the quilts. I founded my quilt near the area I was a hostess. Wayne walked over to see my quilt and took pictures. It was HOT but not as HOT as in the past shows. We were at the show from 8:00-3:00. The KOA had a BBQ for all the campers with a whole roasted pig, hamburgers, hot dog, fresh fruit, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans, and fresh pies for $10.00. It was around the lake and had live music. The food was great and was alot of fun. Sunday, we headed home after picking up my quilt. We got home at 1:10. I will post a few pictures of the show.

We took pictures of the litter and of Mom and Dad. We are looking forward to having another dog in our lives.

May Flowers

It has been very nice spring weather for the last week. The iris is blooming which I love. Yesterday, we went to the coast for the 1st time without a dog. Mandy would have been 11 years old yesterday. We had a nice day but missed her. I haven't been quilting since losing Mandy. It has been a rough 2 weeks at work. I need to get out of nursing but will have to wait until I'm 62 to get SS and go per diem only.
I started to paint the guest and master bathroom. I finished the guest bathroom on Thurs and started the master bathroom yesterday and today. I will start on another quilt project and work on the quilt on my short-arm this week.
The weather is going to be cool and rainy next week. Perfect time to sew/quilt.

Mandy

Pets bring some much joy and happiness into our lives. They are alway their for you with unconditional love. Yesterday, we lost our Golden Retriever, Mandy. We got her when she was 6 weeks old. She would have celebrated her 11th Birthday on May 15. She had a possible brain tumor for the last 3 months. It has been so hard to see her health decline but had to made the hard decision to let her go to dog heaven.
She was a very sweet and loving girl. She loved to play ball and swim. We went camping in our 5th wheel she was always ready to go with us anywhere. She loved the big red truck. She knew the word GO. She would always greet you at the door with her tail wagging and gentle place her mouth in my hand(like a kiss) She would lay by my quilt studio when I was sewing.
We have some many happy memories of her that will live in our heart forever. She loved us and we loved her so much. I LOVE YOU Mandy.

Aloha and Happy Easter

We got back home on Thursday/Friday from a wonderful Kauai vacation. We found a great beach on the north shore called Anini Beach. We went snorkleing 3 days there and saw alot of beautiful fish and 3-4 Hawaiian green sea turtles. There is a huge reef(2 miles long) so it was protected from the waves. There was a High wind and surf warning during those days. It was unbelieveable to see the sea turtles swimming on the ocean floor and in the reef. I got a quilt kit with turtles. I can't wait to start making it. We miss the sunny and warm temp(upper 70's) in Hawaii. It has been rainy and cool (40-50's). We are enjoying a nice Easter with church and then a ham and fixings at home. Back to work tomorrow and then off for 4 days. Will start a new quilt project and put the quilt I finished on the short arm machine to quilt.

Aloha from Kauai, Hawaii

Yesterday we had a great time in paradise. We went snorkeling at Poipu Beach. On the beach, was a Hawaiian monk seal which is endangered species. There are only 1,000 of these seals in the Hawaiian islands with about 30-40 in Kauai. The area was roped off because it is illegal to get near them. It was exciting to see on of them. The snorkeling was great with alot of different fish.
We went to the quilt store called Kapaia Stitchery in Lihue. It was a wonderful store with Hawaiian quilting, Hawaiian fabric, patterns etc. Lisa Boyer has several patterns in the shop. She lives in Kauai. She wrote 2 books called That Dorky Homemade Look-Quilting Lessons from a Parallel Universe and Stash Envy. I got a kit of Baby Honu and pattern called Swimmies. I got some turtle batik and turtle fabric. They had a huge white and blue Hawaiian quilt in one window and a quilt called Postcards from Hawaii(which is a Lisa Boyer pattern).
We are going to the Waimea Canyon and West shore today.

Priscilla's Quilt Studio's

My sister-in-law introduced me to Cloth-Paper Scissors Studios magazine which shows ideas for your art and craft space. It tells what the person likes to do( painting, quilting etc) and why their space works for them. The space can be large or small. Mary has a nice large studio(500 sq ft) and I have 2 small studios. She said she plan to send a query of her studio to the magazine. I have several copies of the magazine and several people had small studios like me. I decided to make a goal to submit pictures and query about my 2 studios. I have worked on getting both studios decorated and organized for the past 2 months. I has been alot of fun. I got everything together and mailed my pictures/query about my studios today. I plan to post some pictures of them soon. Thanks Mary for showing me this magazine. Hope they like my pictures/query. I have shown the magazine to a friend and she got alot of ideas for her space.

Quilt/Sew Day

Friday, we had our 1st Quilt/Sew Day of 2010. I have 2 neighbors( Karen and Paige) that come over to my house for the day to sew/quilt their projects. We started this one day of the month last year and it has been alot of fun. I had tomato soup, grilled cheese sandwich and choc chip cookies for our lunch. Next month Paige will bring lunch. I worked on my ONLY UFO I didn't start and finish. I took a class at Sisters OR in 2004 and the class was to overwhelming for a new quilter. I decided to finish it. I'm going to take a class in July at Sisters Outdoor Quilt Show and may show this quilt in a show and tell. I'm a more confident quilter now. Karen made a apron for her granddaughter and Paige worked on UFO's. We had a great day.

Julie&Julia

I watched the movie Julie&Julia last week. It is 2 true stories about Julie Powell writing a blog about cooking every recipe in Julia Childs book for a year and the life of Julia Childs. It was an amazing stories of 2 women that had a passion for cooking. I love to cook too.
I'm glad I start this blog about my passion for quilting. January is a boring depressing month. I started a new project this week. It was great to get back into my studio and sew. Everyone should have a passion for doing something in their life.

Happy Quilting New Year 2010

Happy New Year 2010. We celebrated Wayne's B-Day yesterday by going to Red Lobster for dinner. He is going to be my blog master for photos. He likes to be the Quilting Police but he really is supportive husband. Next week will start a new project. I'm ready to sewing and quilting after the holidays.
