Northwest Quilting Expo

I went to the Northwest Quilting Expo in Portland yesterday. I entered my Old Hawaii quilt in the show. I didn't win anything but it was great to have a quilt in it. I had a fellow quilter take a picture of me by it. There were alot of beautiful quilts and great vendors. I was at the show for 2 hours. I will post some pictures of it and my latest quilt project.
This week is our guild meeting with Nancy Lee Chong. It should be an interesting program about Hawaiian Quilting

Maddie and Sassy

Here are a few pictures of Maddie taking herself around the house with her leash. Sassy loves to get into my fresh picked green beans. She will take them out and then push them on to the floor to play green bean hockey.

Coneflower

I finished my quilt of the coneflower on Sunday. I really like it. It was fun to do the thread play. This is a pattern in Melinda Bula book called Cutting Garden Quilts. I have the zinnia that I made in her class to do the thread play. I will work on this project alittle at a time. I will start on some new projects. I took my quilt to the Pine Needle quilt shop in Lake Oswego on Saturday. The Northwest Quilt Expo is a month away. Here are some pictures of my Coneflower.

Northwest Quilting Expo

I have been working on my coneflower doing the thread play on it for the last several weeks. I'm almost done with the flowers so I can quilt the background. It looks great but is time consuming. I need to start another project but want to finish the quilt and bind it.
I decided not to enter a quilt in the state fair this year. I decided to enter my Old Hawaii quilt in the 11th Annual Northwest Quilting Expo in Portland on Sept 22-24. The judges in the past have been at our guild quilt show. There are 2 new judges this year. I enter in the small quilt category to be judged. I sent a picture of my quilt and got my acceptance letter on Saturday. There are about 450-500 quilts at the show so this will be the biggest show I have entered a quilt. There is prize money in each category(1st-$500,2nd-$250 and 3rd-$150. I'm very excited to have a quilt in the show. I have to take the quilt up to Portland by August 31( 2 quilt shops will take them). The Pine Needle in Lake Oswego is the one I will go to this Saturday. It is a great shop and will go to the farmers market there too.

Goodbye July

This July has been great with no 90 degrees temps. It has been in the mid 70's to mid 80's. I finished the Coneflower last week. I went to get rayon thread(alot of colors)and found the batting and Super slider. I made a practice piece with leaves and petals to do freemotion thread play. I really like doing the thread play. I will practice some more and than start on the Coneflower. I got the backing that I want for the Zinnia and Coneflower.
I booked my flight to Houston this week for a great price of $235.00. I leave on Nov 1-9. I'm going to stay with my college girlfriend Jan from Sunday to Wednesday. It will be great to go back to the International Quilt Festival in Houston. I really enjoyed it with my sister-in-law Mary in 2008.
Hope to get started on new projects soon. I have a quilt to put on my short arm this coming month.
Happy Quilting

Rainy day in July

It is a very soggy day for July. It is cool with temps in the mid 60's. It is the rainest July since we moved here 10 years ago. I had a awful day at work yesterday so asked to be on call today which has been nice. I finished my Zinnia on Friday and started the Coneflower today. I got my confirmation from Houston yesterday but didn't get in Melinda Bula class Blue Bonnet. I was disappointed but will have plenty to do that day instead of the class. I really enjoyed her and learning how to do her beautiful art quilts. I need to get thread and practice thread regenade. I really wanted to get these done to show her in Houston. I have posted some more pictures of her quilts

Quilter's Affair Sisters OR

We stayed at the KOA Madras/Redmond so I could attend the class at Sisters. It is long drive every morning(7:00) but the views of the valley and mountains was unbelieveable. I like to get to class early(8:00) to get checked in and set up(class started at 8:30. The campground was great. We had a end site with great views of the valley and mountains(Mt Hood and Mt Jefferson). My husband Wayne and Maddie our golden retreiver drove me both days. They went to see the sights and shopping at Home Depot and Lowe's. We stayed from Wednesday July 6-July 9 but didn't attend the quilt show. The parking for the 5th wheel was a long ways from the show and had to take the shuttle. It was going to be alot cooler day for the show than in past years but would have to leave Maddie in the truck with possible no shade. I came to Sisters to attend the 2 day class only. These are pictures of the campground and the beautiful views.
