Hilde Morin Curves and More Class

It was fun to take the class on curves which "outside my box". I was overwhelmed at how fast some of my other quilters were doing their quilt but when I learn some thing new I'm slower at it. I'm very pleased with my quilt. She squared her pieces up but I didn't have a huge ruler plus it would have cut to much off. I like the pleats/folds in it which gives it texture. I placed some of my "lace" on it. Here are a few pictures of my quilt.

Sitka Art and Ecology Center.

This is a very interesting place on Cascade Head which is located north of Lincoln City. They have all types of classes from May to Sept like drawing, cooking, woodworking, sewing and outdoor activites etc. Then from Oct to May it is only open to painters, writers etc to work on their projects. You can look up more info about them on Sitka Arts and Ecology Center. It has several hugh Sitka trees on the property. I will post some pictures of it.

Hilde Morin

I went to a 2 days quilt class with Hilde Morin at the Sitka Arts and Ecology Center near Lincoln City. The class was called Curves and More. We learned how to cut fabric with curves and then how to sew the curves. She makes beautiful wall hangings. The class had 10 students. The class was from 10-4 with an hour lunch. The Sitka Center is near Cascade Head which is beautiful. Great place for a workshop. Everyone progressed at their own speed which my was slow. I got home and worked on it and finished it on Friday. I did mine differently then hers by not squaring it up and liked the folds in it. We maded "lace" which I placed some on my quilt. You use water soluble stabilzer place cut up pieces of fabric(not to small), thread, yarn etc on sticky side and then place a plastic cover over it. You sew a tight grid over it and then wash it out and dry it. I have pictures of the class and her quilt art.

Gazania

We saw this flower when we went over to Newport over the 4th of July. This flower is so beautiful and would make a great art quilt. I didn't know the name of the flower until I went thru my garden books and found it. It is called a Gazania. I was hoping it would grow over here but does better in warmer climate in the winter. I hope to make a drawing of it and make a art quilt. Here are a few pictures of them. I love the colors.

8th Annual Coburg Quilt Show

These are pictures of several quilts in the show. I would recommend everyone should go to this show. There were alot of vendors too.

HOT AUGUST DAY

This is the 1st weekend of August and 1st HOT WEEKEND of the summer. It was 93 in Salem yesterday and today is to get to 98-100 with high 90's on Sunday. We closed the house up after leaving all the windows open last night. We went camping on the coast at Nehelm Bay State Park from Monday to Thursday. It was great weather with temps in the high 60's. It suppose to get to 88 today(heat advistory for the coast). Glad this is going to last but a few days. Last weekend, I went to the Coburg Quilt Show. It was the 8th annual quilt show. I have never been to it because I always had to work. It is an outdoor show in the park. Coburg is cute town with antique stores and quaint houses. I enjoyed the show with over 300 quilts. I will post a few pictures of the show.
