Goodby June

It has been a cloudy, cool and rainy day for the last day of June. It is hard to believe that is the 4th of July weekend. So far our summer has been slow to get started with cool days but it is suppose to get in the 80's next week. I have pictures of the 2 quilts called Crazy for You and the Check It Out quilt. I have been getting ready for Sisters this is next week July 7&8 with Melinda Bula. We are going to camp at the KOA Madras/Redmond for 3 nights. The hubby and Maddie(golden retreiver) are going fishing. We may stop to see the Quilt Show on the way home Saturday morning(depends on traffic).

Happy Summer

I haven't blogged this month so I decided to say that I'm glad to have summer started this week. It has been a very cool and rainy spring. We went camping last week and was able to finish 2 quilts. I made 2 quilts from Brenda Hennings Fat Quarters Cut-Ups called Crazy 4 You in two colors. I made a quilt from Pincushion Boutique pattern called Check It Out. I need to get this one the quilt machine this week. I will take several pictures this week.
I'm looking forward to getting to Sisters in July for my 2 day class with Melinda Bula. We are camping near Sisters from July 6-9. We may stop on the way home to see the Quilt Show.

Amish Quilt

I was able to purchase a Amish quilt in Paducah. It was made by a Amish woman that lost 4 children in a horse drawn buggy accident in Febr. The buggy toppled in a rain-swollen creek near Paducah. It was a fund raiser to help the family. There were several quilts made by her and her family memebers from Ohio and Penn. Here are some pictures of it.

AQS Quilt Show and Contest in Paducah, KY

I really enjoyed my classes with Libby Lehman and David Taylor. I did go to see Bryerpatch Studio by Carol Bryer Fallert. She has a beautiful studio and unbelieveable quilts. I got a pattern called Feather Study 28 and got the DVD called STITCHED which is a documentary about art quilters starring Carol Bryer Fallert, Hollis Chatelain and Randall Cook. I watched it this week which was great. It showed how they work on their quilts and getting into Paducah and Houston. I went by Eleanor Burns Quilt in a Day store but I'm not a big Eleanor fan.
I'm so glad I went to see the AQS Quilt Show in Paducah. It was nice to have Wayne see it with me. I will post some more pictures of the show.

AQS Quilt Show and Contest in Paducah, KY

I was unable to continue with my trip to Paducah on Thursday because unable to get on blogspot and worked yesterday.
April 29 I worked from 9-11 as a hostess for the show at the Pavillon. I enjoyed watching the people and the quilts but couldn't show the backs of the quilts because of the way the quilts were hung(close together). I received a special hostess pin for volunteering. After lunch, I had a class called Pick Up a Pencil and Draw with David Taylor from 1-4. He taught to use simple line drawing technique to build a pattern. It was an interesting way to learn to draw.
April 30 I drove to Paducah without Wayne to go to my last class with David Taylor called It's Pointless Applique from 8:30-11:30. He had to demo the class because the church couldn't handle more than 5 sewing machine and 2-3 irons. He showed us his secret technique(Ying Yang) eliminates concave curves and buries hard to stitch points. We got to practice and got one of his kits. Most everyone got the Penquin pattern. He showed us his new quilt that is making to enter in the Houston International Quilt Show in Nov. It is a cat looking around a barn door called Marmalade. He has his goat quilt at class with us and his dog Maynard won an award at Lancaster. It was shown with the winners of Lancaster,PA at the Office Max. AQS Quilt Show and Contest in Paducah, KY

April 28 I didn't schedule anything so we could explore Paducah. Puducah is a town of 25,000 on the Ohio River. The downtown are is historic area. The National Quilt Museum is America's largest quilt museum displaying over 100 quilts. Exhibits change bi monthly. It is dedicated to "honoring today's quilter". It is in the downtown area. We enjoyed the exhibits which had the 2011 Pilgrim/Roy Challenge. We went to the Pavillon to see the quilts and vendors. All the quilts were fanastic. Of course I took alot of pictures and brought a CD of all the quilts in the show. The previous day we went to see the quilts and vendors at Circuit City and Office Max. The food tent was next to the National Quilt Museum and we had the famous Strawberry Shortcake sold by the Boy Scouts. It was real shortcake!! We went to Hancock's of Paducah which is a huge online/store. I got a great deal on a Hoffman Batiks Cozy Breaking Waves Quilt Kit valued at $69.98 for $39.98. We enjoyed looking around the downtown and the Mall area. There were alot of resturants to choice from every night. I will post some pictures of downtown and National Quilt Museum.
