Oregon State Fair Quilt Walk

I have been on a committee for the Oregon State Fair since Nov for Quilting. The State Fair wanted to improve the Creative Living section since it was a failure last year. A group of quilters mainly from the Mid Valley Quilt Guild got together to get the Quilt Walk back for this year show. The 2013 Oregon State Fair started on August 23-Sept2. We have the Quilt Walk back with about 200 quilts displayed. I went over to the fair yesterday to see the Walk and check out the fair. It is always HOT when I go to the fair but yesterday it was cool and rainy. It was nice to have cool weather. I entered a quilt in the fair and was HAPPY to see I won a 2nd place ribbon. I worked today as a white glove volunteer from 10-2. Here are some pictures of my quilt and the Quilt Walk. Our guild was doing the demo yesterday and today.

Paige's King Size Quilt

Last week, I finished my 1st king size quilt for my friend, Paige. It is a wedding quilt for her daughter and son-in-law. The fabric was heavier like tablecloth. The pattern was called Alex by Anne Bright designs E2E with Superior Thread King Tut Sandstorm. It turned out super and the pattern was perfect for the fabric. It was big and heavy so was unable to take a picture of it outside. I did get good pictures of it on the quilt frame. Here are a few pictures:

Paige's Cowboy Quilt

I finished a quilt for Paige this week. It is a Cowboy Quilt which she made for her husband, Lee. She used a pattern designed by Karla Alexander called Rail Fences. I used an E2E Open Meander design with Superior Thread called Sand Storm. Here are a few pictures of the quilt:

Happy August.

It is hard to believe this is the first weekend in August. Last weekend, my college friend Jan and her husband Darrell and son Travis came for a visit for 3 days(Fri-Sun). I went to college with her at Angelo State University in San Angelo, Texas from 1972-1974. This was their first trip to the Pacific Northwest and where here a week. I have visited with them after the Quilt Show in Houston in 2008 and 2011. They live in a town north of Houston called The Woodlands. We took them to McMinnville to the Evergreen Museum to see the Spruce Goose on Friday and then Sat took them to see the coast. We went to Lincoln City, Depoe Bay and Newport. They loved the coast after walking along the beach, seeing a gray whale, seeing a lighthouse and clam chowder. It was fun to show them our beautiful coast. Here are a few pictures:

Oregon Summer Quilt Expo in Redmond

I wanted to post a picture of Libby's quilt in the Roy Pilgrim Challenge.

Oregon Summer Quilt Expo

I went to this 1st expo in Redmond on Thurs. I went mainly to see the Roy Pilgrim exhibit to see Nancy Brown's quilt. She was a speaker at our guild in March and she stayed at my house for 2 nights. She had this quilt in progress when she came out here and had to finish it by mid April. The expo had several exhibits and great vendors. I will post pictures of Nancy's quilt.
