Greenbaum's Winter Quilt Retreat

I did take a nice walk along the beach and found a wonderful piece of driftwork. These are some pictures of our view, beach and hotel.

Greenbaum's Winter Quilt Retreat

Greenbaum's Winter Quilt Retreat

Last weekend, my friend Paige and I went to the Greenbaum's winter quilt retreat at the Shilo Inn in Newport. We went last year and had a wonderful time. Last year the weather was very stormy with high winds, rain and flooding. This year it was absolute fanastic with sunny skies, temp in the mid to high 50's and no wind. The retreat starts on Fri-Sun but we decided to come on Thurs. We were able to set up our sewing machines etc that night for the next day. There were 76 quilters with 8 to a table. This year we both had a small ironing board that attached to the table and portable iron. It gave us more room and the easy of ironing without having to get up and use their iron. We decided to go to The Chowder Bowl for dinner on Thur and Fri. Sat evening is the dinner with all of us in the resturant. They had 6 gift baskets to win like last year which I was lucky to win last year. NO LUCK this year. I was able to get a table runner and pillowcase done and started on a new quilt. It was great to work on some of my projects which I haven't been able to do due to getting a customer quilt and church banner done. We had a fanastic oceanview room on the 3rd floor. You could see the crab boats out on the ocean and the lighthouse. We took something for breakfast and lunch to save money. It was great to eat in the room with our beautiful view. We were able to sew on Sunday this year as last year we left early due to weather. We had to check out by 12:00 and left at about 1:00. We ate at The Chowder Bowl before heading home. We decided to go next year and Paige paid my $25.00 desposit as my B-Day gift. It is great to have a friend that is fun and enjoys sewing/quilting. I have posted a few pictures of the retreat. Happy Happy Quilting

Winter Retreat

It has been very cold the last several days. It is very dry with freezing fog/frosty with low in the 20's and high in the low 30's. I'm looking forward to going to Newport Shilo Inn on Thurs for Greenbaum's Winter Retreat. The retreat starts on Friday-Sunday. Paige and I are going early on Thursday. We went last year and had a great time. I have a few projects to work on for myself. I have been working on the baby quilt(neighbor) so haven't had anytime for my projects. There are 76 quilters in a huge room with an ocean view. You can work on your projects from morning to night. There is a dinner for everyone on Sat. It will be fun to meet new quilt friends and see everyones show and tell projects. I plan to take walks on the beach too. It is suppose to be clear and warmer on the coast by the end of the week. Happy Quilting!!

Baby Boomer

Today, I applied for Social Security as I will turn 62 in April. I have earned it after working 38 years as a RN. This will help pay for health insurance. I'm so glad I/We did all of our traveling when we were younger and had the money. I'm happy that I can stay home to work on my quilting business. It will help pay for my QUILTING habit.

Happy New Year 2013

Welcome New Year 2013. I'm looking forward to a fun and interesting year. I'm excited about my new quilting business. It has been fun to learn about computerized quilting. I learned alot by going to classes and practicing what I have learned on my quilts. Yesterday, my friend Cindy from Utah that I meet at MQX West. She was in town visiting with family and we went out for lunch and to a quilt store in Portland. It was so great to meet her famliy and to see her. She has a longarm business. She is a wonderful friend and a excellent person to ask questions about quilting. I have always want to do a Challenge quilt and Comfort quilt for my guild. That was my goal for 2013 plus enter in the Quilt Show 2013. I finished my challenge quilt before Christmas and finished quilting on my comfort quilt this week. I need to put the binding on the comfort quilt which I will do by machine. I will post a picture of the challenge quilt now. I turn it in at the Febr meeting and voting will be at the March meeting and displayed. I will post pictures of the baby comfort quilt when I get the binding done.
