Oregon Garden Stitches in Bloom Quilt Show

My friend,Paige and I went to the Oregon Gardens which is located in Silverton for the quilt show. I don't know if this is the 3rd year for the show but was my 1st time to it. The quilts were outstanding but the show was very disappointing. I have been to many quilt shows locally and nationally and have never been disappointed as I was of this show. The space for the show was terrible. They had quilts and vendors in a small building which made it very crowded and hard to see the quilts. The lighting was bad and you couldn't take flash photography. I have been to many of quilt shows that it wasn't a problem to use flash so was unable to take pictures of the quilts. It would have been almost impossbile to take a pictures anyway because of the crowded area to view the quilts. The description of the quilt were so small to read without reading glasses. The other building was smaller yet. The quilt show cost $10.00 which was high too. I wasn't disappointed in the quilts at all. I wished I could have enjoyed them more but it was to crowded. It was very disappointing and will never go to it again.

Winter Quilt Retreat in Newport

We stayed at the Shilo Inn in Newport. It is by the beach near Nye Beach which has stores and resturants. Great views of the ocean for storm watching.

Winter Quilt Retreat in Newport

The past weekend was the Winter Quilt Retreat in Newport by Greenbaum's in Salem. My friend, Paige and I went early on Thurs which we glad we did do to the weather. The retreat started on Friday-Sunday at the Shilo Inn. We went Hwy 20 from Corvallis to Newport which had alot of flooding along the river. We found out that we just made it to Newport before they closed it. The weather was rainy and windy all weekend except Saturday which was partly cloudy, slightly windy but no rain until the evening. I took a walk along the beach that day and found a great piece of driftwood. Thurs, we went to the Chowder Bowl for late lunch and then to Quilter's Cove quilt store. Friday we got set up in a big room to sew/quilt with about 76 quilters. We got a great table with a view of the ocean. We had a great 3 days of sewing/quilting. It was fun to work on our projects, watch several teachers give demos on different quilt projects and meet new quilters. I made sandwiches and soup for 2 lunches which enjoyed in our room with a oceanview. Saturday night, was dinner with everyone and they gave away gift baskets that you put your name in for different fabric baskets. I was lucky to win a basket called Whole Lotta of Love. It has fabric, patterns and books in it. I'm going to open it today. I did get a Christmas wall hanging kit and table runner kit done. I work on the binding on the last quilt I did on my short arm. Paige and I are going next year. I will post a few pictures of the retreat.

January Winter Storm 2012

It has been a wild past week of weather with snow and then alot of rain. I worked the weekend of January 14 and 15. We got snow on Sunday which made the roads icy. My wonderful husband took me to work and I got to go home early(3-7). We got a total in Dallas of 6" of snow by Monday morning. I was so glad to be off all week to go to the Winter Quilt Retreat in Newport from Thurs-Sunday. The snow turned to rain and wind late Monday-Wednesday. We got over 6" of rain in 2 days. Our creek near our house/road was flooding which I have pictures of it. The flooding was all over several counties. We have gotten over 12-15" of rain in a week. I will post a few pictures of the snow and flooding at our house.

Winter Quilt Retreat in Newport

This is the weekend of Greenbaum's Forest Quilt Store Winter Quilt Retreat in Newport. The retreat starts on Friday-Sunday but we are leaving early Thursday. I'm going with my friend Paige and her dog "Tess". We are staying at the Shilo Inn which is on the beach. The weather is suppose to be very RAINY which is perfect for quilting with 76 other quilters. It is suppose to be very WINDY tomorrow with 40-50mph with gusts 70-80mph. There is a high surf warning. It should be great for storm watching. The rooms have ocean view. The coastal mountains have been getting snow too. I decided to do several Christmas projects which is perfect with the cold/snow and rainy weather. It will fun to sew/quilt all weekend and meet new quilters. I will write more about the retreat and have pictures next week. Happy Quilting!!

Happy New Year 2012

Happy New Year 2012!! I had a great 2011 and looking forward to this coming year. It has been a very happy and fun holidays. January has always been a very boring and dull month. Thank goodness, I'm going to a quilt retreat with my friend Paige on Jan 20-23 at the Shilo Inn in Newport. There will 76 quilters which is presented by Greenbaum's quilt store in Salem. There will 5-6 teachers at the retreat with different projects that you can do or you do your our projects. It will be great to sew/quilt with an oceanview. I have never gone a quilt retreat which is going to be fun. They will have a dinner on Sat for everyone and show and tell time after the dinner. I have several projects that I want to get started on. I'm getting my 2 quilt studios organized and cleaned up.
Tomorrow I will take the Christmas tree down and put everything away. Going to watch the Rose Bowl now. Go Ducks!!
