Goodbye July

This July has been great with no 90 degrees temps. It has been in the mid 70's to mid 80's. I finished the Coneflower last week. I went to get rayon thread(alot of colors)and found the batting and Super slider. I made a practice piece with leaves and petals to do freemotion thread play. I really like doing the thread play. I will practice some more and than start on the Coneflower. I got the backing that I want for the Zinnia and Coneflower.
I booked my flight to Houston this week for a great price of $235.00. I leave on Nov 1-9. I'm going to stay with my college girlfriend Jan from Sunday to Wednesday. It will be great to go back to the International Quilt Festival in Houston. I really enjoyed it with my sister-in-law Mary in 2008.
Hope to get started on new projects soon. I have a quilt to put on my short arm this coming month.
Happy Quilting

Rainy day in July

It is a very soggy day for July. It is cool with temps in the mid 60's. It is the rainest July since we moved here 10 years ago. I had a awful day at work yesterday so asked to be on call today which has been nice. I finished my Zinnia on Friday and started the Coneflower today. I got my confirmation from Houston yesterday but didn't get in Melinda Bula class Blue Bonnet. I was disappointed but will have plenty to do that day instead of the class. I really enjoyed her and learning how to do her beautiful art quilts. I need to get thread and practice thread regenade. I really wanted to get these done to show her in Houston. I have posted some more pictures of her quilts

Quilter's Affair Sisters OR

We stayed at the KOA Madras/Redmond so I could attend the class at Sisters. It is long drive every morning(7:00) but the views of the valley and mountains was unbelieveable. I like to get to class early(8:00) to get checked in and set up(class started at 8:30. The campground was great. We had a end site with great views of the valley and mountains(Mt Hood and Mt Jefferson). My husband Wayne and Maddie our golden retreiver drove me both days. They went to see the sights and shopping at Home Depot and Lowe's. We stayed from Wednesday July 6-July 9 but didn't attend the quilt show. The parking for the 5th wheel was a long ways from the show and had to take the shuttle. It was going to be alot cooler day for the show than in past years but would have to leave Maddie in the truck with possible no shade. I came to Sisters to attend the 2 day class only. These are pictures of the campground and the beautiful views.

Quilter's Affair Sisters OR

I have pictures of my 2 day class with Melinda Bula. It was a very fun class and Melinda is a great teacher. I have signed up for a bluebonnet class in Houston with her. I haven't heard yet if I got the class because I went online Sunday to register. I'm already excited about going back to Houston on Nov 1-9. I have the Northwest Expo in Portland in Sept and Machine Quilters Expo in Portland in Oct. I have posted several pictures of the class. I have more to do on my Zinnia and plan to start the Coneflower in her book.

Quilter's Affair Sisters OR

I got back yesterday from attending the Quilter's Affair in Sisters OR. I attended 2 all day classes on Thurs and Friday with Melinda Bula called Fabulous Fusible Flowers. The class was from 8:30-3:30 with an hour for lunch. Melinda's new fusible flower pattern "Zinnia". It is painting by number but with fabric and color value. She showed us how to do the Renegade Thread Play. There were 18 in the class with all different colors of zinnias. Melinda is a fun teacher. She had great stories to tell and wanted to make sure everyone got help and to feel at ease in the class. She told everyone this isn't a race and that everyone will be at different levels at getting their zinnia done. She had several of her quilts to show us. I really loved the class and have booked a class with her in Houston. I will posted pictures of the class and my zinnia so far this week.
We stayed at a KOA Redmond/Madras for 3 nights(July 6-9) It was a great campground but I didn't realize how far it was from Sisters. Wayne and Maddie took me to class both days. They went to lake and shopping at Lowes and Home Depot. It was HOT on Wed but cooled down to the high 70's low 80's. It has always been hot when we have been in past years. We didn't go to the Quilt Show yesterday because we had the 5th wheel and would have to park a long way for the show. I mainly went this year for the class with Melinda.
