Goodbye March

I was suppose to go to my first workshop with my guild but got sick last night. I was excited about taking the class with Jean Wells today. I called Kathy and she going to get the kit for me. I have her new book so will be able to do the art quilt that we were going to do in class. I had the sewing machine and everything ready for class in the car. I will meet Kathy this coming week for our short arm meeting. She can tell me about it. I really enjoyed her lecture yesterday. I'm disappointed that I missed a workshop with Jean but can go over to Sisters for classes anytime.

Mid Valley Quilt Guild March meeting Jean Wells

Today was our monthly meeting and our guest speaker was Jean Wells from Sisters OR. She is a nationally speaker and book author of quilting. She has the The Stitchin' Post quilt shop and has the largest outdoor Quilt show in the country(2nd Sat in July). She drove from Sisters this morning and forgot her computer with her power-point presentation. She didn't need it because she is an excellent speaker. She told how she got started in quilting and her new adventures in art quilting. She had several of her quilts from the her new book to show us. The book is called "Intuitive Color and Design. It was very interesting how to use lines/designs and use of color. I'm taking her 1 day workshop tomorrow called Quilt Design Exploration from 9:00-3:00. This will be a new and different type of quilting for me. I wanted to take classes that are out of my comfort zone and learn new ideas and techniques. I will post about the workshop and pictures.

Smile Box

I have seen in a few quilt bloggers use smile box for a slide show. I signed up for the free use of it but the pictures are smaller and then are ads attached to the right side of the slide show. You can pay monthly or yearly not to get the ads and bigger pictures. I'm glad some bloggers use it but for me I would use the money for something else like fabric.

Happy National Quilting Day and Happy Spring

The National Quilting Day was established in 1991 to educate and teach everyone about the love of quilting. It has been 9 years since I took my first quilting class at Grandma's Attic in Dallas, OR. We moved to Dallas 10 years ago this June from Denver,CO. I'm so glad I took a beginner class to learn how to quilt and fell in love with quilting. It has been so much fun for me to create and be creative in making something out of fabric. I took home eco in junior/high school which was required in my school days. I learned how to sew but had a hard time with making clothes. My Mom would make wonderful dresses for me but I never got excited about making clothes. I wish my Mom could see all the quilts and table runners I have maded now. My grandmother had a treadle sewing machine and made quilts. I do have 2 quilts that she made but wish I had her sewing machine. I have taken several quilt classes and got a short arm quilt machine. My goal for this year was to take alot of classes and go to Paducah and Houston. I will turn 60 on April 24 and to celebrate I wanted to have a Quilting Celebration. Quilting is a huge part of my life and I love it. I have some many quilting projects but like the saying says Some Much Fabric So Little Time. Happy Quilting Day and Happy Spring.
